Arrowfield Stud sire Starcraft sired his first winner when Don’t Tell Mary (Ire) scored an on-pace victory at Bath on Wednesday night.

She was his first runner from a sole Northern Hemisphere-bred crop conceived in 2006 when he covered 105 mares at Cheveley Park Stud.

Starcraft (Soviet Star) was due to return to Cheveley Park in 2007, but the trip was cancelled after he suffered an injury to his off-hind leg after covering his first southern-hemisphere book of mares at Arrowfield Stud in Australia.  He has not returned to stand at stud in Europe since then.

Toga Tiger (Antonius Pius) was all the rage at Bath after a very promising debut but he bumped into a decent filly second-up.

Racing Post UK reported Don’t Tell Mary displayed distinct signs of greenness early in the contest, and raced with quite a high head carriage.  She travelled with real zest before showing a smart turn of foot to quicken clear over a furlong out and win in pretty taking style.

Don’t Tell Mary (2f Starcraft – Only In Dreams by Polar Falcon) took the eye as a nice type in the paddock and an entry in the big juvenile sales race at Ascot later in the season suggest connections think a bit of her.

She was bred by Mascalls Stud and was purchased by David Redvers for £32,000 at the Doncaster yearling sale last September.  She is the fourth winner produced by the stakes-placed Only In Dreams.  Her half-brother Cape Fear (Cape Cross) won the St Leger Yearling Stakes and ran second in the July Stakes at two.

Starcraft won the G1 AJC Derby and was Champion 3yo Colt in Australasia before relocating to Europe where he was a G1 winner of the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Newmarket.

His first southern crop has averaged nearly $100,000 at the majors this year and his top Easter Sale yearling was the $350,000 colt from Ducks (Woodman) offered by Kitchwin Hills.
