Steel Trigger fires for ill-fated sire Ganseki

Ganseki sired a winner with his first starter when local colt Steel Trigger scored by three lengths on debut at Wagga on Sunday.

Steel Trigger (2c Ganseki – Shamrock Jazz by Almurtajaz) is a homebred for trainer Steve Cunningham and will be winning better races on the strength of his breakthrough victory in the Gundagai Service Club Hcp (1000m).

Cunningham has kept faith with the family since buying Ganseki for $23,000 from Paringa Park at the 2006 Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  He didn’t race but was given a chance at stud only to die in October 2010.

Rock Of Gibraltar got him from Lady Madonna (Godswalk) who won two races at Sandown and was also stakes there and at Randwick.  The best of her four winners to date has been G2 Villiers Stakes winner Grey And Gold (Danehill) and her latest is a yearling colt by Giants Causeway stallion Giacosa.

Steel Trigger and his stablemate Eliazer (ex Abbe Cat by Campo Catino) are the only foals from Ganseki’s first crop.  There are another half-dozen yearlings from his second and final crop.
