The 2010 European 2YO Rankings were released on Tuesday amid a controversial rating of Juddmonte star Frankel. The Galileo colt was expected to be a clear leader of the juvenile division, however, Dream Ahead has been rated his equal on 126.
Frankel defeated Dream Ahead by seven lengths the only time they met in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October. Dream Ahead (Diktat) had won the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville and he also scored a stunning nine-length victory in the G1 Middle Park Stakes but he was beaten a long way from home in the Dewhurst.
UK Racing Post handicapper Simon Turner was surprised by the panel’s verdict. “Frankel is the most impressive juvenile I have handicapped in nine years with the Racing Post,” he claimed. “In my mind, there’s no doubt he deserves to be considered the outright champion.”
Frankel is trained by Henry Cecil and his unbeaten record also includes a 10-length rout in the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot in September. “I’ve never had a two-year-old like him,’ Cecil said. “The last juvenile I saw of his calibre was Arazi!”
Boookmakers have quoted Frankel a $2.25 favourite in pre-post markets for the English 2000 Guineas on April 30. Dream Ahead is available at $17.
