Stradbroke in sight for Graceful Anna

Graceful Anna will be set for the G1 Stradbroke Handicap following her stylish win in the Listed Silk Stocking Handicap (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Graceful Anna (3f Canny Lad – Lamellar by Grand Lodge) is regarded as one of the leading lightweight chances for Queensland’s premier sprint next month.  “There’s still good improvement in her – she will come on again from this run,” winning trainer David Pfeiffer said.  “She’s so tough and just keeps finding.  She’s still a bit off her peak yet.”

Graceful Anna is a great advertisement for the Magic Millions.   She was knocked down at the company’s Gold Coast sales complex as a weanling ($14,000), yearling ($25,000) and as 2YO HIT ($38,000).

Former trainer Oliver Koolman purchased Graceful Anna as a two-year-old and she joined the stables of Pfeiffer after Koolman decided to retire from training.  The filly has now won 6 races from 8 starts and earned $915,300.

Graceful Anna won at Kembla Grange and Gosford before breaking the track record in the Magic Millions 3YO Stakes at Wyong in December.  She followed up with a Group 3 in the Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben on Boxing Day and struck pay-dirt when a brilliant winner of the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy in January.

Darley sire Canny Lad got the winner from Lamellar, a winning half sister to the Adelaide stakes winner Catriona.  The mare is now based in Western Australia and Kintore Stud owner Allan Young kept her Hurricane Sky filly when bidding failed to a reach a $50,000 reserve at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions in January.

Lamellar’s foal by Trade Fair died soon after birth in October and she was then bred back to incoming Lynward Park shuttler.
