Widden Stud freshman Stratum can sire another feature winner this month when his WA based filly Celebration Girl lines up in the G2 Karrakatta Plate at Ascot on April 17.
Celebration Girl (2f Stratum – Gypsy Frolic by Bluebird) will start in the Perth’s premier juvenile event after an impressive victory in the Westspeed Plate on Wednesday.
Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) clinched the Australian 2yo sires’ premiership when Crystal Lily won the $3.5 million Golden Slipper last Saturday and there’s another $500,000 on offer in the Karrakatta.
Celebration Girl increased Stratum’s Australian winner tally to 8 so far this season which puts in second place behind Jet Spur (11). The Perth winner is a younger half-sister to Gunner Rock (Rock of Gibraltar) who was a Balaklava winner in November.
Their dam Gypsy Frolic is a half-sister to G3 Port Adelaide Cup winner Vestey (Last Tycoon). The mare has a yearling filly by Dash For Cash and she was covered by Bel Esprit last September.
Celebration Girl was $60,000 buy for Ascot trainer Johnny Lugg when she was offered by Mogumber Park at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions.
