Street Cry filly wins South African Ready to Run Cup

NSW bred filly Hollywoodboulevard landed the biggest payday of her career in the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup at Turffontein on Saturday.

Hollywoodboulevard (3f Street Cry – Soneria by Filante) defeated another Australian bred filly Igugu (Galileo) by a length in the sales linked event worth R1.5 million.  A third Aussie bred filly Oh Driscoll (Johannesburg) finished fourth in the capacity field.

Hollywoodboulevard settled well back but began making up ground with some purpose.  She stuck to her guns to cause a 25-1 upset over Igugu who started a long-odds on favourite.

Trained by Charles Laird for major client Marcus Jooste, Hollywoodboulevard had looked set for bigger things when coasting home by seven length on debut at Vaal in April.  She was unplaced at her next three runs but they were in the G2 Fillies Nursery, G1 Alan Robertson Championship and G2 Golden Slipper.

She is by Darley sire Street Cry and was bred and sold by Bridgeview Stud for $6,000 as a foal at the 2008 Magic Millions National weanling sale.  Her dam Soneria has since foaled fillies by Universal Prince and Tiger Hill.

Hollywoodboulevard was entered for the 2009 South African Ready To Run 2YO Sale by Summerhill Stud and Laird signed the sale sheet for R900,000 (AUD 129,840).
