NZ based Little Avondale Stud has purchased Street Cry stallion Per Incanto to stand at its Masterton property. Studmaster Sam Williams announced the acquisition on Friday. The USA bred son of Darley sire Street Cry will stand alongside Towkay (Last Tycoon) and Zed (Zabeel).
Per Incanto won two juvenile events in Rome at two including a five length victory over 1200m in 1.08.10s. A homebred for Scuderia Archi Romani, he returned at three to win in Rome and Milan before completing a hat-trick in the G3 Premio Tudini back at Rome’s Capannelle circuit.
Per Incanto struck a blow for the three year-old division against Italy’s elite seasoned sprinters in the Group 3. Showing domineering speed, he raced prominently and was in front at the halfway point before drawing away to defeat black-type winner Sakhee’s Song by two lengths.
Per Incanto (Street Cry – Pappa Reale by Indian Ridge) was named Champion Italian 3YO Sprinter in 2007 and was subsequently purchased by Shadwell Stud. Injury stymied his progress the following year but he returned at five to win over 1400m at Aqueduct.
Street Cry (Machiavellian) is a sire sensation in both hemispheres. His Group 1 winners include legendary mare Zenyatta, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, Melbourne Cup winner Shocking, and Caulfield Guineas winner Whobegotyou.
His dam Papa Reale is Italian Sprint Champion Papa Reale. She has proven herself equally proficient at stud having left a second Champion Italian Sprinter Patapan (Stravinsky) who is also based in NZ at Brighthill Farm.
Per Incanto bears a close physical resemblance to his own sire. The dark bay is an outstanding looking individual standing 16.1 hands. He will stand for $4,000 (+ gst) when commencing stallion duties at Little Avondale next spring.
