Makybe owner Tony Santic has announced Street Hero will shuttle to his showpiece Gnarwarre property this spring.  The US Group 1 winner will join Purrealist (Tale Of The Cat) who stood his first season at the Victorian nursery last year.

Street Hero is by Darley’s successful dual-hemisphere sire Street Cry from the Summer Squall mare Squall Linda who won three races and was G3 placed in the Monrovia Handicap at Santa Anita.

Street Hero has an Australian connection through his second dam Glimmer Glass (The Axe) who is a half-sister to Clystalla (Pia Star).

Imported to Australia by Robert Sangster in 1976, Clystalla foaled champion filly November Rain (Estaminet) who was a G1 winner of the Victorian Oaks, AJC Oaks and Queensland Oaks.

Street Hero was rated the fourth best colt of his generation when assigned 122 pounds on the 2008 US Free Handicap.

He won the G1 Norfolk Stakes, defeating eventual champion Midshipman, and was placed in both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the G1 Del Mar Futurity.  He never finished worse than third in all six of his starts.

Trained, owned, and bred by Myung Kwon Cho, Street Hero went from maiden ranks to the elite level in the Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita in September 2008.  Under Alex Solis he accelerated into the straight and split horses at the furlong to win by three-quarters of a length.

Street Hero is bred on the sire producing Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross and stallions bred on this cross have generally done well when bred back over Northern Dancer line mares.

Street Hero will shuttle from Vinery’s Kentucky base where he has just finished covering an initial book at a US$12,500 fee.  He will stand for $16,500 (inc gst) in Australia.

Meanwhile, a decision is yet to be confirmed whether champion mare Makybe Diva will be served by this season.  She foaled a Fusaichi Pegasus filly last August and is due to foal to Encosta de Lago in September.
