Squamosa has been retired and negotiations are underway to stand him at stud this season.
The Gai Waterhouse trained stallion was last seen finishing down the track in the G1 Missile Stakes won by Rain Affair in August 2011. Attempts to get him get him back racing were shelved when he disappointed in a Randwick barrier trial a fortnight ago.
“He was a very talented horse and we are hoping he goes to a very good home,” Star Thoroughbreds manager Denise Martin said. “He deserved to win to Group 1.”
Squamosa (5h Not A Single Doubt – Class Success by Success Express) was a $140,000 buy at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions from the draft of Arrowfield Stud. He won two-from-two at Randwick as a late season juvenile and completed a hat-trick in the 2010 G3 Run To The Rose.
A fortnight later, he was narrowly beaten by Toorak Toff in the G1 Golden Rose. After a 41 week spell, he resumed with a Listed victory in the 2011 June Stakes but then pulled up lame in the LR Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.
Overall, he raced 7 times for 4 wins and over $433,000 in prizemoney.
Squamosa is the first son of Arrowfield Stud sire Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) to go to stud. His dam Class Success was stakes winner at Ellerslie and Avondale and she has also foaled the Group performed Sydney filly Flying Success (Flying Spur).
