NZ-bred filly Embrace Me sprouted wings in the final furlong for a stunning victory in the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) on Friday evening at Moonee Valley.
Embrace Me’s first win at black-type level was something to behold. The Danny O’Brien-trained filly was giving the leaders at least 8 lengths approaching the corner before bursting through a gap to win running away from Spanish Whisper.
“She was very fit from her last run at Caulfield when she wasn’t extended 100%,” jockey Brett Prebble said. “She was always going to win from the 500m tonight but I didn’t know where I was going to get a run. There’s plenty of upside to this filly.”
The Group 3 continued the great strike-rate for Blue Sky Bloodstock’s Julian Blaxland and his clients – it was their 9th win in the last fortnight.
Embrace Me (3f Shamexpress – Party Royal by King’s Chapel) was a $90,000 buy for Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) from Henley Park on behalf of Emmanuel Bloodstock’s Mark Sowerby at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.
Blaxland and Sowerby, a Racing Queensland Board Member, had combined to win the LR Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield earlier this season with From Within (Not A Single Doubt).
They also race Brisbane stakes winner Whypeeo (I Am Invincible). “Mark has been a great supporter of Blue Sky since I kicked off 10 years ago,” Blaxland said. “He organised a bunch of owners for Whypeeo. They are all new to racing and are part of YPO (Young Presidents Group).”
