Sun shines for Magic Millions HIT Sale

The Magic Millions National HIT Sale produced its latest winner when The Other Sun scored a half-length victory in the Eclipse Ford Maiden Plate (1100m) at Ballarat on Wednesday.

The Other Sun (3c Al Samer – Shaan by Danewin) is trained by Patrick Payne and was a $100,000 buy from Emirates Park last year.  “He is a bit of a handful and is still a bit new,” winning jockey Michelle Payne said.  “He’s got a lot of ability and he showed a great turn of foot.  He’s a nice horse for the future.”

Emirates Park has a five-horse draft being prepared for the 2011 Magic Millions National HIT Sale by resident sires Al Samer (4) and Al Maher (1).

Al Samer (Redoute’s Choice) got Wednesday’s Ballarat winner from Shaan.  She earned black type when third to Stellamac in the LR James Carr Stakes at Randwick in 2007.

Al Samer has sired 27 individual winners from his first two crops at a 36% strike-rate.  His sole stakes winner is the Dean Lawson trained Mr Chard who claimed the G3 VRC Carbine Club Stakes and Listed MRC Gothic Stakes last October.
