The stars aligned for Geisel Park-bred winners Sunshine Tafe (All American) and Our Rocky Bay (Awesome Rock) on Saturday when they completed an early double at Pinjarra.
They went out as odds-on favourites and were both piloted by in-form hoop Lucy Fiore who doubled up again with Why Me (Jimmy Choux) and North Face (Sessions) at Bunbury on Sunday.
Lucy and trainer Peter Fernie will be hoping Sunshine Tafe’s victory in the SBS Computers Hcp (1300m) augurs well for stablemate Sentimental Hero (Al Maher) who is the $5.50 favourite for the $1 million Perth Cup (2400m) on Wednesday.
Sunshine Tafe had waltzed home as an odds-on favourite in a Kalgoorlie maiden against older horses in July and had been knocking on the door with Belmont placings since resuming this season.
Geisel Park owner Eddie Rigg races the promising 3yo filly with a syndicate that includes Andrew Inglis, Chris Chalwell, Neil Pinner, Tony Buhagiar, Trevor Nisbett and Simon Lill. Rigg had farewelled her sire All American (Red Ransom) last month after eight books at Myalup.
Sunshine Tafe is the fifth winner from her dam Miss Safari (Ferocity) who passed away just weeks after a final cover by All American in October 2022. She was a younger half-sister to No Questions (G2 Karrakatta Plate) and French Favorite (LR Raconteur Stakes).
Our Rocky Bay (4g Awesome Rock – Joyeux by Lonhro) had won two in a row at Ascot earlier this year and Fiore let him stride forward at the half-mile to sit outside Pretty Devine (Divine Prophet) and Famous Jurney (Universal Ruler) in the Bridgetown Jigsaw Gallery Hcp (1200m) at Pinjarra.
He had the leaders covered into the straight despite the wide trip and was too strong through the line for Bleecker Street who is a son of Geisel Park resident Manhattan Rain.
Our Rocky Bay is prepared by Ted Martinovich and the win increased his prizemoney pool to $170,000 boosted by Westspeed Bonuses of $58,000 for owners Martin Epis and Roy Harper. The latter bred him in partnership with Rigg.
His dam Joyeux had opened her winning account in a Sandown Hillside nursery for Lee Freedman in 2011 before transferring to WA. Our Rocky Bay is her fourth winner and she followed up with an Awesome Rock 2yo filly named Joyoh and further fillies by Maschino and Rommel.
Fuddle Dee Duddle is another former Geisel Park mare and she foaled her fourth winner when Space Rider won on debut at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Space Rider (Zoustar) led from barrier-to-box in the Portland Sky Hcp (1200m) and immediately firmed into a $7 second-favourite for the $3 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11.
Fuddle Dee Duddle (Red Ransom) was raced Eddie Rigg and Yarradale Stud’s Ron Sayers and she launched a furious finish from last to win the G3 Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in 2011. Rigg was floating on Cloud 9 at the presentation as he also owned runner-up Bippo No Bungus (Dubawi) in partnership with Ian Loxton, Ken Hunter and Dean Cox.
