Sunspeed on Show at Sha Tin

WA-bred 2yo Fantastic Show has announced his arrival for campaigns to come with an explosive victory at Sha Tin.

He charged home under champion jockey Joe Moreira to score by over a length in the Chai Wan Road Griffin Plate (1200m) on Sunday.

Fantastic Show was bred at Oakland Park and went through the sale ring twice before joining trainer Me Tsui late last year. He made $140,000 as a yearling at Inglis Melbourne Premier in March and $100,000 at Inglis Sydney 2yo Sale in October.

“He’s a lovely horse, very green and immature at this stage but he has a lot of potential,” Moreira told SCMP. “He didn’t miss the start, he just didn’t have any pace and that’s why he was at the back. That indicated to me that he’s a miler, or even further, but he’s just too young to be running over his right distance yet.”

“If he was in places like Japan or Europe, trainers would put him straight into a mile race. That isn’t how things are done here and the 1200m was too short but he caught them up quickly and won easily.

“He’s an exciting horse and later, over longer, will match any of the Griffins.”

Fantastic Show (2g Not a Single Doubt – Evoked by Song Of Tara) is the first foal of a sister to Spirit Of Tara who won a Group 3 at Randwick and two Listed events at Eagle Farm with trainer Gerald Ryan.

His three-quarter sister by Oakland Park sire Rogano was purchased by Grant & Alana Williams for $70,000 at this year’s Perth Magic Millions. Unfortunately, their dam Evoked has nothing to show from her last two covers by fellow Oakland Park resident Safeguard.

Oakland Park owner Neville Duncan has three stallions on the roster at his south-west farm this year; Rogano ($8,800), Safeguard ($8,800) and Sessions ($7,700).
