Sheikh Hamdan has pensioned 19 year-old stallion Swain. The son of Nashwan will retire to Shadwell Farm in Kentucky where he stood from 1998 to 2009.
Swain won 10 of his 22 starts including the King George back-to-back and he also captured a Coronation Cup and Irish Champion Stakes.
Swain spent his entire stud career in North America and his chief earner was the Dermot Weld trained Dimitrova who won the G1 Flower Bowl Invitational. She was the highlight of his first crop which also included Greenham Stakes winner Muqbil.
His European performers included May Hill Stakes filly Nasheej and Prix Thomas Bryon winner Makaan. Swain spent the last two seasons standing alongside Aljabr at Ascot Stud in Canada.
