Sweet Idea gave Gai Waterhouse a third win in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) with an all-the-way victory at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Racing’s First Lady had doubled up over a decade ago with Ha Ha (2002) and Biaggio (2003).
Sweet Idea (3f Snitzel – Flidais by Timber Country) crossed from an outside gate and controlled the speed before kicking away from her rivals in the straight. Minor placegetters Estonian Princess and Enquare were no match for the winner.
“She’s a very good filly and keeps on improving all the time,” Waterhouse said. “She ran second in a Magic Millions Classic and then third in the Golden Slipper.”
Sweet Idea is part-owned by locally based brothers David and Luke Henderson along with former AFL star Campbell Brown. She was a 240,00 buy from the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Her connections spent $200,000 buying Sweet Idea’s full sister on the Gold Coast earlier this week and she will also join the Waterhouse stable.
Sweet Idea is by Arrowfield stallion Snitzel who is currently atop the 2013-14 Australian sires’ premiership. Her dam Flidais earned black type with a third placing in the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes.
It’s a family Waterhouse knows only too well. She also trained Sweet Idea’s second dam Electronic to Group 1 victories in the 1995 AJC Metropolitan and 1996 STC Ranvet Stakes.
