Swettenham filly’s rich haul at Ascot

Swettenham Stud bred filly Dancing Rain added the G2 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes to her rich haul at Ascot on Saturday.

Dancing Rain (3f Danehill Dancer – Rain Flower by Indian Ridge) won the G1 English Oaks in June with a clinical front-running gallop and she doubled up in the G1 German Oaks at Dusseldorf in August.

Before the classics, she had won the Robert Sangster Memorial at Newbury and followed up with a close second to Izzi Top (Pivotal) in the LR Swettenham Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes at the same venue.

Johnny Murtagh set a steady pace in front on Dancing Rain at Ascot before gradually increasing the tempo to prove her classic double was no fluke.  “She is outstanding and the plan now is to go to the Japan Cup on November 13,” trainer William Haggas said.  “She will definitely be back in training next year.”

Dancing Rain is by Coolmore sire Danehill Dancer and she has Swettenham links going back to Dr Devious.  Her dam is a three-quarter sister to the 1992 English Derby hero who was raced by Robert Sangster.

Dancing Rain was bought by bloodstock agents Liam Norris and William Huntingdon for 200,000 euros at the 2009 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale.  She is from the immediate family of Coolmore filly Maybe who maintained her unbeaten record in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in August.

Maybe and Coolmore colt Roderic O’Connor are both by Galileo.  Roderic O’Connor was bred by Swettenham’s Sangster family and he was a G1 winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas in May.
