NZ based Novara Park Stud has sourced Lonhro colt Sweynesse to stand in New Zealand.
“He’s the highest-rated stallion from the Zabeel sire line to begin stud duties here since Savabeel,” Novara Park manager Ray Knight said. “We’ve been on the lookout for an Australian Group 1 performed horse.”
Sweynesse retires to NZ on the back of a Timeform 3YO Rating of 122.
The Darley colt won his only start at two and claimed Group 3 wins in the Spring Stakes and Gloaming Stakes. He then stepped up to Group 1 company for the first time when third in the Champion Stakes and he ended that prep when 8th in the G1 Cox Plate.
He settled last from a wide gate at Moonee Valley and rattled off the fastest final sectional to finish only 1.75 lengths from the winner Adelaide.
Sweynesse kicked off his autumn programme with a close second in the G2 Hobartville Stakes and he pushed Hallowed Crown (Street Sense) close again when runner-up in the G1 Randwick Guineas. “He was awesome,” jockey James McDonald said. “We got back in a slowly run race so his splits would have been amazing.”
Lonhro sired Sweynesse from winning Singspiel mare Swansea and Novara Park will stand him for a fee of $6,000 (plus gat) alongside Jakkalberry (Ire).
