Victorian breeders and stallions batted well above average at the NZB 2YO Ready to Run Sale last week.
The average for Super VOBIS nominated Victorian-bred lots was more than $112,000 and that well and truly surpassed the record-breaking overall figure of $92,000.
Tarcoola Stud’s Ken Williams bred the $340,000 Sebring – Brilliant Jewel colt that topped Day 1 at Karaka. He had been pin-hooked by Kiwi agent Paul Willetts for $150,000 from the Tarcoola draft at this year’s Magic Millions National yearling sale.
The Victorian bred colt was purchased by Warwick Farm trainers Mauro Poletti and Amanda Turner. “He inspected super,” NZB agent Danny Rolston said. “He was Mauro and Mandy’s top pick from the Breeze Ups.”
Based on the Mornington peninsula, Tarcoola Stud was named Victorian 2011 Small Breeder of the Year after Sacred Choice won the G1 Doncaster Mile.
The Blue Gum Farm bred Red Arrow – Lassetoile gelding was next best at $170,000 followed by the Erinvale Investments bred Helmet – Alborada colt at $160,000.
Moorookyle Park sire Cecconi led Victorian based stallions with a colt that made $190,000 and other six-figure sales were by Helmet (Darley – $160,000), Written Tycoon (Woodside Park – $130,000), Skilled (Darley – $130,000), Domesday (Darley – $115,000), Master Of Design (Swettenham – $110,000) and Magnus (EPI – $100,000).
