Team Hawkes goes Hard at Magic Millions

Team Hawkes gave All Too Hard another vote of confidence when parting with $460,000 for his first colt to parade on Day 1 of the Magic Millions Sale at the Gold Coast.

And Wayne Hawkes backed up their bid with a ringing endorsement after securing the All Too Hard – Fit And Ready colt on Wednesday.  “We loved him from the first time we saw him.  He’s a big, strong colt with a beautiful action.  You come here hoping to take a few home and it’s a bonus getting the one you really want.”

Catalogued as Lot 17, the youngster is the second foal of the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Canterbury winner Fit And Ready (More Than Ready) who is a half-sister to Catbird (G1 Golden Slipper Stakes) and Danbird (G2 Pago Pago Stakes).

“He might end up being a cheap horse,” Hawkes added.  “I wouldn’t be surprised if the All Too Hard yearlings are much more expensive come the Inglis Easter Sale.”

Team Hawkes trained All Too Hard to Group 1 triumphs in the Caulfield Guineas, Orr Stakes and Futurity Stakes in Melbourne before he bowed out with an outstanding victory in the G1 All-Aged Stakes in Sydney.

They rated All Too Hard in the same league as Lonhro and paid-up for 13 of his first-crop in the G1 Blue Diamond and G1 Golden Slipper.

Among them is unraced colt Newburgh who will make his debut in the TAB Rewards Plate (1100m) at Randwick this Saturday.  He is a Turangga Farm homebred from Testa Rossa mare Panipique who was a Flemington stakes winner for Stuart Ramsey.

The best of the All Too Hard fillies on Day 1 at the Magic Millions was the first foal from Testa Rossa mare Glasgow.  The dam is a half-sister to G2 Chelmsford Stakes winner Nevis and she made $160,000 to the bid of Gai Waterhouse.

Day 2 of the Magic Millions continues on Thursday with a smorgasbord of All Too Hards headed by colts from G1 Saratoga Ballerina Stakes winner Rightly So (Lot 375) and G2 Light Fingers Stakes winner Rock Me Baby (Lot 383) plus a filly out of Sydney stakes winner She’s A Fox who is a sister to Foxwedge (Lot 441).
