Testa Rossa can sire an international feature double in Los Angeles and Perth on Saturday.
The Vinery stallion has French-bred gelding Blue Chagall gunning for a G1 in the Citation Hcp at Hollywood Park while his classy mare Ortensia can bounce back to winning form in the G2 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot.
The Citation is timed for 4.30pm on Friday afternoon in California (Sat 11.30am AEDT). Blue Chagall will have his work cut out beating Cowboy Cal (Giant’s Causeway) who will bow out of racing in the Citation. He is trained by Todd Pletcher and was a G2 winner of the Oak Tree Mile before fading out of the placings in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile a fortnight ago.
Blue Chagall (4g Testa Rossa – Eloisey by Pitskelly) was a dominant three-length winner of the Listed Lure Stakes last time out and will be well-placed in the run under Garrett Gomez. He opened his Californian account in an allowance event at Del Mar in August.
Testa Rossa sired Blue Chagall when he shuttled to France from his original base at Yallambee Stud in Victoria. The gelding was a G3 winner of the 2007 Prix des Chenes at Longchamp before relocating to trainer Julio Canani the United States.
ORTENSIA was an unplaced favourite in the G1 Railway Stakes at Ascot last Saturday, however, trainer Tony Noonan is confident she can make amends in the Winterbottom.
Ortensia (4m Testa Rossa- Aerate’s Pick by Picknicker) travelled to Perth with sound a form-line from Flemington. She was beaten two lengths by All Silent in the G2 Gilgai Stakes and had no luck when runner-up to Strawberry Field in the Herald Sun Stakes.
Testa Rossa got her from an unraced sister to G3 Rubiton Stakes winner Intelligent Star. She won the G2 QTC Cup at Eagle Farm during the winter carnival and was also placed behind Black Piranha and Danleigh in the G1 Stradbroke Hcp.
