The Anaesthetist left favourite punters dazed and confused with a shock win at Belmont on Wednesday.

They backed Gingerella (Gingerbread Man) from $2.35 into $1.75 first-up following an impressive trial at Lark Hill and she looked all set to collect the cash after waltzing away at the top of the straight.

But she was on tip-toes at the 100m pole and The Anaesthetist pounced for his first win since a Pinjarra maiden in July 2017.  “We always knew he had ability but there have been feet and breathing problems along the way,” trainer Gary Crispin said after the Amelia Park Hcp (1200m).  “Hopefully, he’s turned the corner now.”

Rangeview Stud stallion So Secret got him from Doctor Dash (Bletchicano) who won twice at Pinjarra for the Turner family and trainer Phil Duggan.  Her latest is a filly foal by Rangeview sire Galah.

“That was a good effort and it was a blessing when the favourite set a strong tempo in front,” winning jockey Andrew Castle explained.  “He’s a big boy and that let him get into a rhythm and be comfortable.”

So Secret (Danetime) sired this year’s LR Bunbury Cup winner Couleur Bizarre among career stats of 59 individual winners of 141 races and $4.70 million in prizemoney.  He stands at Rangeview Stud for a $3,300 service fee with Galah at $5,500.
