The Last Lion shuttles to Darley NSW

Group 1 Middle Park Stakes winner The Last Lion will shuttle to Darley Kelvinside in NSW this year.

An ultra-tough and consistent son of Choisir, he never finished out of the first three in 10 career starts.

Trained by Mark Johnston, The Last Lion landed the opening race on the British juvenile calendar in last year’s Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster.  He went on to win the Listed Dragon Stakes en route to a four-length victory in the G3 Sirenia Stakes.  He also notched up a further four places at Group level, including second in the G2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He rounded off his racing career with a superb win in the Middle Park Stakes – Europe’s elite 1200m challenge for two-year-olds at Newmarket.  He defeated no fewer than six stakes-winning juveniles in a win that saw him rated the best two-year-old colt in Europe.

The Last Lion is also ahead of Olympic Glory as the highest-rated two-year-old by Choisir.  He is currently covering his first book at Kildangan Stud in County Kildare at a fee of 12,000 euors.

He is one of three stakes winners from Mala Mala (Brief Truce) who was Group 1 placed in the Moyglare Stud Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes.  She is a half-sister to G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Tarascon.
