Theseo took his Group 1 tally to and five at Rosehill on Saturday when he scored another brave victory in the $400,000 Ranvet Stakes (2000m).
The Gai Waterhouse trained iron-horse defeated Viewed in the 2009 Ranvet and this year’s edition was a carbon copy of the first. He was sent straight to the lead by Nash Rawiller and controlled the race from the front-end.
Theseo was there to be beaten in the straight but he was too brave for the back-markers. “He’s a very special horse,” Waterhouse said. “He’s got that lovely daisy cutting style. The BMW is his next mission.”
In the 2009 BMW, he was beaten less than a length on bottomless going by mudlark Fiumicino.
The Danewin gelding has turned into a mighty advertisement for Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds operation. He was a $120,000 buy from Emirates Park at the 2005 Gold Coast Magic Millions and has now banked over $3 million from 10 wins and 9 placings in 33 starts.
Theseo (6g Danewin – Ozone Sand by L’Enjoleur) is a half-brother to Perak Derby winner Gold Arrow (Snaadee). Their USA bred dam Ozone Sand has a 2yo colt named Alzone (Al Samer) and a yearling filly by Al Maher. She had a year off in 2008 and was covered by Danewin last October.
