Theseo still a threat in Sydney

Theseo was beaten a nose in the 2009 Australian Cup at Flemington but a year to the day later he was back in business winning the G1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Warwick Farm.

Theseo (6g Danewin – Ozone Sand by L’Enjoleur) was purchased by Star Thoroughbreds for $120,000 from Emirates Park at the 2005 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He has now won 9 times in 32 starts for earnings of $2.71 million.

After being edged out by Niconero in an Australian Cup finish that fooled everyone, including caller Greg Miles, Theseo returned to Sydney and defeated Viewed in the G1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill.  He backed up in the G1 BMW and was beaten less than a length on bottomless going by mudlark Fiumicino.

Gai Waterhouse will now set her grand galloper for a similar campaign this year  “He is so tough,” Nash Rawiller said after Theseo regained the lead after being headed by Rangirangdoo.  “Gai wanted him ridden like he was the best horse in the race and he pulled out plenty when challenged.”

Theseo is by Emirates Park sire Danewin and is a half-brother to Perak Derby winner Gold Arrow (Snaadee).  Their USA bred dam Ozone Sand has a 2yo colt named Alzone (Al Samer) and a yearling filly by Al Maher.  She had a year off in 2008 and was covered by Danewin last October.
