Wink And A Nod capped a winning week for Mungrup Stud stallions at Ascot on Saturday.
The McFlirt mare scored a first-up victory in the Speeding Bullet Hcp (1200m) for Justin and Lucy Warwick. Peeling off the heels of front-runner Nardini at the top of the straight, she fought back when challenged by former Victorian mare Clinking to score by a short-neck.
“She’s a beautiful, athletic mare and a first-up specialist,” Justin Warwick said. “She makes her own luck and should progress through the grades.”
Wink And A Nod (5m McFlirt – The Westerly Win by Danewin) is the only foal from a well-bred mare who won five races at Kalgoorlie and Esperance. It’s the family of Group 1 winners Marceau (Rawson Stakes), Runyon (Perth Cup) and Zasu (Champagne Stakes).
Warwick also prepares his McFlirt stakes winner Global Flirt who runs in the G2 C B Cox Stakes this Saturday in the final lead-up to the G2 Perth Cup on January 1.
McFlirt (NZ) was retired earlier this year after covering 13 books at Mungrup Stud.
The Ascot result followed five winners for Mungrup sires at Geraldton on Thursday. McFlirt began the meeting with Let’s Kiss ‘N Tell and doubled up with Confucius. Danehill Express weighed in with Chavinca and Oratorio closed the card with Tudor Royal and Countess Panetti.
