Former Oaklands Stud sire Iglesia completed a stakes winning double at Toowoomba on Thursday with Lucky Leak (LR Weetwood Hcp) and Humma.(LR Toowoomba Cup).

Lucky Leak (5g Iglesia – Empire Lady by Tsarbaby) has improved out of sight since transferring from Gary Portelli to Patrick Sexton last year.  The Weetwood win was his fourth in a row and boosted the bank balance to $317,000.

Owner Frank Mittiga bought him for $45,000 at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  “He was just super impressive,” Sexton said.  “He’s a very tenacious horse and just kept finding under pressure in the straight.”

Sexton and Mittiga combined earlier in the day to win with Extreme Mover (Falvelon).  

Lucky Leak is one of five winners for the 100% producer Empire Lady.  She was a two-time Doomben winner but died after foaling a Magic Albert colt last year.

Humma also scored a determined victory in the Toowoomba Cup despite being caught out in the cheap seats under 58kg.  He outstayed a strong field to score by three-quarters of a length from local galloper Topping.

Humma (7g Iglesia     – Blue Lady by Western Symphony) is raced by Sherrif Iskander and was originally based with Chris Waller before joining Rob Heathcote’s stable.  He had won four races at Doomben before breaking through at Listed level on Thursday.

The Cup win boosted his earnings to $410,000 which is a good return for a horse that failed to make a $60,000 reserve when offered by Kulani Park at the 2005 Inglis Classic yearling sale.  

Humma is one of four winners for Blue Lady who is now based in New Zealand.  She is sister to G3 VATC Sandown Stakes winner Any Rhythm and foaled a Falkirk colt last year.

Iglesia (Last Tycoon) died at Oaklands Stud in December 2006.  Overall, he has sired 255 winners of 696 races at a 58% strike rate.

His stakes winning son Written Tycoon, who was also raced by Sherrif Iskander, is continuing the sireline at Eliza Park.  He opened his account at stud when Masthead won the $250,000 Inglis Premier at Mornington last month.  

Masthead is trained by Lee Freedman and not without a chance in the G1 Golden Slipper on Saturday.
