NZ bred filly Pretty Pins bolted in when making her debut in the Super Maiden Hcp (1030m) at Doomben on Wednesday.

The Patinack Farm galloper couldn’t keep up with odds-on favourite Townie in the early stages but finished strongly in the straight to win by more than three lengths.

Pretty Pins (3f Pins – Luna Tudor by Military Plume) is bred to appreciate longer trips than five furlongs.  Her sire Pins is based at Waikato Stud and he has been represented by 41 stakes winners including Cox Plate winner El Segundo, Caulfield Guineas winner Econsul and Hong Kong Horse of the Year Ambitious Dragon.

His Doomben winner cost $280,000 from Trelawney Stud at the 2010 NZ Bloodstock yearling sale at Karaka.  Her dam Luna Tudor was a G2 winner of the Perth Cup for WA Queen’s Counsel Ron Davies.  

Davies sold Luna Tudor to Trelawney for $110,000 after she retired and the mare has been a wonderful producer for the historic Cambridge nursery.

Her best performer has been G1 Toorak Hcp winner Allez Wonder (Redoute’s Choice).  Patinack’s Nathan Tinkler bought her for $1 million at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale in April.

Allez Wonder was trained by Bart Cummings for Dato Tan Chin Nam and Su-Ann Khaw.  She originally went through the Karaka sale ring for $600,000 at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Premier yearling sale.

Luna Tudor’s Elusive City colt failed to reach a $100,000 reserve at the 2011 NZB yearling sale but Trelawney will take him back to Karaka in November for the 2YO Ready to Run Sale.

“He’s really developed since we brought him home in February,” Trelawney’s managing director Brent Taylor said on Thursday.  “He’s been broken-in and he really looked the part when I saw him gallop at Matamata this morning.”

Luna Tudor has a yearling colt by Pins and Trelawney has been nominated him for the 2012 Karaka Sale.  The mare missed last year but she will go back to Pins.
