Tribeca Star drums up support for Kosciuszko

Murwillumbah trainer Matt Dunn has ambitious plans for Tribeca Star after the Star Turn sprinter delivered the stable’s 9th win in a week at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.

Appearing first-up since an unlucky sixth in the $1million Country Championship (1200m) at Randwick in April, Tribeca Star settled back in the field before letting down for a convincing victory under Jimmy Orman in the Access Insulation Plate (1200m).

Dunn is hoping the win helps drum up enough public support to gain a slot in the $2 million The Kosciuszko (1200m) at Randwick on October 19.  He’s also looking further afield for the lightly-raced 5yo with a view to a summer carnival campaign in Brisbane.

“He’s going better than ever and would have just about won the Country Championship from a good gate,” Dunn recalled.  “He won a trial at home last month and was in well at the weights today.”

Tribeca Star was bred and sold by Vinery Stud for $90,000 at the 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.  His dam Classy Manhattan (Manhattan Rain) is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Property (Starcraft) and her yearling is another colt by Star Turn.

Wednesday’s result sent Tribeca Star’s prizemoney through $270,000 from just 14 starts for a partnership managed by Dunn’s wife Keira.  A Viva Racing syndicate is among the ownership group and they also race Star Turn’s $820,000 earner Derry Grove with the Dunns.

Viva Racing manager Mitch Lowe purchased another Star Turn for $75,000 at this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  The filly is the first foal from Think I’m Flying (So You Think) and she has been named Glam.

“We’re big fans of Star Turn,” Lowe said prior to Derry Grove winning the $1million Magic Millions The Syndicate (1100m) at the Gold Coast in January.  “We sold the filly inside an hour and I’m sure she won’t be the last Star Turn we buy.”

Star Turn is standing for $27,500 (inc GST) again this year at Vinery with payment on a live foal.  For bookings or further information, contact Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333.
