Star galloper Chase Me (NZ) reappears after a two month break in the G1 Kranji Mile (1600m) on Sunday. It’s the first leg of the Triple Crown which also includes the G1 Raffles Cup and G1 Singapore Gold Cup.
The Kiwi bred son of Storm Creek hasn’t been seen since a dominant victory in the G1 Chairman’s Trophy (1800m) in July. That result against older horses came on top of his eight length triumph in the G1 Singapore Derby (2000m).
Chase Me won a Kranji trial over 1000m on Tuesday. He made steady ground and was pushed out to score by a head in 62.98s. “He’s still well short of where we really want him,” trainer Desmond Koh said. “The mile is also well below his best distance and he’s still a bit heavy.”
Koh said the G1 Raffles Cup (1800m) on October 21 was the logical next step for Chase Me, however, he’s reluctant to make a commitment to the G1 Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) on November 11.
Chase Me is raced by the Super Trio Stable. He was bred by Peter Jenkins and Neoline Redfern and was purchased from the Twin Pines draft at NZ Bloodstock’s 2008 Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale for just $4,000.
