Riverman mare Tugela has tested in foal to Desert King. A full brother or sister to Makybe Diva is due in late August next year.
It’s the first time Tugela has visited Desert King since 1998 and, of course, that was the mating which produced the three-time Melbourne Cup legend. Overall, Makybe Diva won 15 races and over $14.50 million in stakes.
Desert King (Ire) no longer shuttles and his fertility is as strong as ever – Tugela went in foal at the first attempt. “He is looking fantastic,” syndicate manager Julie Nairn said. “His coat is gleaming and he is really enjoying his work.”
A 17 year-old son of Danehill, Desert King has sired 560 individual winners at a 57% strike-rate. Among them are 26 stakes winners including millionaire weight-for-age star Desert War.
He stands for a $9,900 (inc gst) fee and Julie Nairn can be contacted on 0402 901 910 for bookings.
