Turbulent Test at Saratoga

Champion filly Turbulent Descent led the charge for Congrats when the Vinery sire claimed North American first-season honours in 2010.

Congrats (A P Indy) is about to shuttle to Vinery Australia for the first time this month and Turbulent Descent can send him off a winner in the G1 Test Stakes (1400m) at Saratoga this Saturday.

Turbulent Descent has a point to prove after being beaten three lengths by It’s Tricky in the G1 Acorn Stakes (1600m) at Belmont Park in June.

The filly bogged down on an afternoon that claimed several hot favourites but trainer Mike Puype refused to use that as an excuse.  “I knew we were in for a big race when I saw It’s Tricky in the paddock – she looked so well,” Puype said.  “That win wasn’t a fluke – it was a very, very nice race.

“The Test has been on our mind from the get go.  I’m very confident going into this race and how she’s doing.  Wheeling back to 1400m is right up her ally.”

Turbulent Descent (3f Congrats – Roger’s Sue by Forestry) is a 6-5 favourite for the Test Stakes.  She has won five of seven lifetime starts, including G1 victories in the Hollywood Starlet and the Santa Anita Oaks.  She also captured Keeneland’s G2 Beaumont Stakes prior to the Acorn.

Turbulent Descent cost $160,000 at the Ocala Breeders 2YO Sale in April 2010.  She is expected to contest the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (1400m) at Churchill Downs on November 4 & 5.
