Tivaci won his first stakes race at Flemington on Saturday and also boosted the value of his younger half-brother at the Inglis Premier yearling sale.
The High Chaparral colt won the G3 C S Hayes Stakes (1400m) on protest after stewards deemed interference cost him the race. Palentino was first past the post but was relegated after an enquiry.
Jockey Craig Williams claimed Tivaci lost two lengths when he was pushed six-wide passing the half-mile pole and he only went down a short-head. “Now he’s got a black-type win at Flemington and that’s massive for his future as a stallion,” part-owner and trainer Mike Moroney said. “We still have to make a decision whether to keep him here for the Australian Guineas or go to Sydney for Randwick Guineas.”
Both races are Group 1 events and are scheduled for Saturday, March 5. Moroney could split Tivaci and stablemate Tulsa (Sebring), who was third home in the C S Hayes Stakes, or run them both at Flemington.
Tivaci was bred by Bart Cummings and sold for $250,000 at the 2014 Inglis Easter yearling sale. His NZ bred dam Breccia (Fastnet Rock) had also been sold by the master for $70,000 at the 2013 Inglis Broodmare Sale.
Breccia is a winning daughter of G2 Perth Cup winner Luna Tudor (Military Plume) and she was purchased by Bell View Park Stud’s Adam Mackrell.
Her Dalakhani yearling colt has been catalogued as Lot 141 by Stonehouse Thoroughbreds (as agent) for the Melbourne Premier Blue Riband Session next Sunday. The Eddington farm has a total 16 lots entered for Oaklands Junction and among them are colts and fillies by Victorian champions Bel Esprit and Reward For Effort plus Darley Group 1 winner Helmet.
