Two Fillies Stud leads WA vendors at Easter Sale

Two Fillies Stud owner Nino Tufilli led WA vendors at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with a Siyouni (Fr) colt (Lot 129) that made $650,000 on Sunday.

The colt was a record-priced yearling for Alma Vale Thoroughbreds (as agent) when knocked down to the Hong Kong Jockey Club at Riverside Stables.  Earlier on Day 1, Tufilli sold a Hello Youmzain (Fr) half-brother to My Bella Mae (Lot 44) to Wally Daly for $160,000.

The Siyouni (Fr) colt is by the same sire as Amelia’s Jewel and his dam Roselyne (Dariyan) is also a French-bred 2yo winner of the 2021 Prix des Chevreuils (1400m) at Fontainebleau.  She is a half-sister to Group 1 German Miler Danceteria (Redoute’s Choice) and a three-quarters sister to Saint-Cloud Listed winner Blossomtime (Shamardal).

Tufilli bought her through Belmont Bloodstock agent Damon Gabbedy for €400,000 (AUD 728,000) at the Arqana December Bloodstock Sale in 2022.  “I had looked up Roselyne’s pedigree online and asked Damon to buy her,” Tufilli recalled on Monday afternoon.

“She came out in foal to southern-hemisphere time and Alma Vale manager Verna Metcalfe says she’s a wonderful mare to work with up at Scone.”

Tufilli also revealed Roselyne reared the Siyouni colt and a Bivouac filly at the same time.  The latter’s dam Longport (Casino Prince) was a G2 Tea Rose Stakes winner (1500m) in Sydney but died when the filly was only three months.

“It’s rare for a maiden mare to nurture two foals and Roselyne’s latest is a colt by I Am Invincible.  She missed to Wootton Bassett (GB) earlier this season and we will be sending her back to Vinnie in September.

“Verna and the team at Alma Vale did a wonderful job prepping both colts.  The Siyouni colt’s x-rays had over 20 hits and he was just as relaxed parading from the first day here until sale time.”

Tufilli and his wife Tina were hobby breeders until getting serious about six years ago.  Their homebred filly My Bella Mae (Deep Field) was a breakout winner of the LR Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) and Cyril Flower Quality (1200m) in 2022-23 and her initial cover was to Capitalist last October.

WA buyers were active at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale buying 13 yearlings for $5.37 million.  Peters Investments topped that spend when Byerley Bloodstock (as agent) paid $1.10 million for the Pierro – Celebrity Queen colt (Lot 317) from Coolmore Stud.

Yarradale Stud outlaid seven-figures led by a $600,000 Zoustar – Threeood filly (Lot 222) from Silverdale Farm.  Another  Silverdale Farm filly black-booked by Yarradale was the $500,000 I Am Invincible – L’Cosmo filly (Lot 15) bought in partnership with Pearce Racing.

The Gidgegannup nursery signed for a third time on Day 2 when partnering with Kim Doak and Luke Fernie for a $475,000 Pinatubo – Cosmic Endeavour filly (Lot 331) from Kia Ora Stud.

Ridgeport Farm owner Santo Guagliardo and trainer Neville Parnham were next on the WA leaderboard with $725,000 for the Snitzel – Dame Giselle filly (Lot 338) from The Chase, $550,000 for the Per Incanto – Lucia Valentina colt (Lot 35) from Elsdon Park and $120,000 for the Home Affairs – Dancing Express colt (Lot 340) from Yarraman Park.
