Two Punch put down in Maryland

Champion USA sire Two Punch has been put down due to ongoing infirmities.  He was 28.

Two Punch (Mr. Prospector – Heavenly Cause by Grey Dawn) had been based at Northview Stallion Station in Maryland since 1989.  He retired after winning the Listed Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn Park among 4 wins from 8 starts.

He has sired the earners of more than $49 million and top of his 54 stakes winners is the Eclipse Award-winning sprinter and successful sire Smoke Glacken.

As a broodmare sire, Two Punch’s daughters have produced an exceptionally diverse group of top-class runners, including Eclipse Award winning steeplechaser Good Night Shirt (Concern), G1 winning sprinter Shine Again (Wild Again) and recent G2 Hutcheson Stakes winner Flashpoint (Pomeroy).

Punchess is the only Two Punch mare in Australia.  She was imported here by Reg Kemister in 2003 and has foaled the NSW winners Pacquiao (Oratorio) and Fantene (Fasliyev).  Her Excel And Excel colt Exclaim’n’Exclude also won races and was stakes placed in South Africa for Charles Laird.
