Hot Dipped signalled there’s more black-type going forward after an almost arrogant victory in the LR Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) in Launceston.
The unbeaten filly is the 14th stakes winner for Woodside Park sire Written Tycoon and connections are already weighing up a visit to the mainland. “We will make a decision on an interstate trip shortly,” part-owner and trainer Brendan McShane said. “I’m so thrilled for the owners – some are first-timers in racing.”
Hot Dipped has won all three starts in Launceston by a combined margin of 13 lengths starting with a maiden on January 27. She was in cruise-control winning the Magic Million Classic last week and was classes above Hussy’s Glow (Hussonet) and Gee Gee Double Dee (Wordsmith) in the Gold Sovereign on Wednesday.
Turkish expat Bulent Muhcu settled the filly off the speed before quickly hauling in the leaders. “I was unsure whether to back her up from last Wednesday,” McShane continued. “I thought the wet track might have also been a bad move.
“But all my worrying and second guessing were for nothing. I guess I’ve always known she’s a very exciting filly and she proved it today.”
Hot Dipped sold for $33,000 from Reiby Lodge at the 2015 Tasmanian Magic Millions. Her dam Galvanized (Rubiton) won the 2004 Strutt Stakes and she has also foaled recent Launceston winner Hugo (Magnus).
Written Tycoon has 20 yearlings entered for the Melbourne Premier and coming up from Tasmania is the Armidale Stud filly from Pontington (Lot 270). She’s the first foal of a winning half-sister to Melbourne stakes winners Black Vanquish and Minnesota Shark.
