Tycoon Up, Up and Away at Moonee Valley

Kyneton sprinter Written Up has helped propel Written Tycoon into third spot on the Australian winners’ table at Moonee Valley.

Written Tycoon has sired 57 individual domestic winners this season and that’s only bettered by Not a Single Doubt (69) and Fastnet Rock (66).  The Woodside Park stallion has put a gap on his Victorian based rivals – next best are Magnus (37) and Reset (32).

Written Up is trained by George Osborne and he came from last to lead home a Victorian sired trifecta from Kievann (Niello) and Belesron (Bel Esprit) in the William Hill Hcp (1200m) on Saturday.

“Everything fell into place, and he attacked the line really strongly,” Osborne said.  “There was a bit of speed and he got on to the back of a horse going forward at the right time.”

Osborne has several short and long-term options with Written Up.  “There’s a Listed (Christmas) Stakes at Morphettville on Boxing Day but it would have to be wet.  Otherwise, we may have a crack a VOBIS Gold bonus race for older horses at Moonee Valley on January 2.

“Then we will probably just put him away until the winter for the Wangoom at Warrnambool and Golden Topaz at Swan Hill.”

Written Up (5g Written Tycoon – Octangle by Octagonal) had opened his black-type account in the 2014 Bendigo Guineas and followed up winning the Silvan Ridge Futurity Inglis Bonus at Warrnambool.

He’s a homebred for Bendigo owner-breeder Chris Morey and is raced in partnership with Terry Hurford and Osborne.  His dam Octangle retired a maiden after four starts around the NSW provincials and she has a yearling filly by Turffontein and foaled another Written Tycoon colt in October.

Written Tycoon is standing for a $19,800 (inc gst) fee at Woodside Park.
