Triple Asset confirmed her superiority over Tasmania’s best juveniles with a brilliant win in the $50,000 Shaw Magic Millions Tasmanian 2YO Classic (1200m) at Mowbray on Wednesday.

Triple Asset (2f Nadeem – Caralowe by Hennessy) led throughout to defeat stablemates Buzzing Along and Cambalara by more than three lengths.  “She showed good speed and settled nicely in front,” jockey Michael Rodd said.  “She wasn’t fully extended and would be more than competitive in Melbourne.”

The winner is based near Devonport with Wesley Vale trainer John Keys.  “It’s a big relief and means a lot to win this race,” Keys said.  “We knew right from the start that she was something else.”

Triple Asset was a $28,000 buy for Keys out of the Armidale Stud draft 12 months ago.  That’s been repaid with interest after a debut win in Hobart followed up by close seconds in the Listed Elwick Stakes and Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes before the Magic Millions Classic.

Keys tried to buy her younger half-sister by Churchill Downs at the Tasmanian yearling sale on Tuesday but dropped out at $60,000.  Victorian trainer Mark Riley went to $62,000 to snare the sale-topper.

“We will have a team meeting this week and will more than likely send her to the paddock,” Keys said.  “But Melbourne is a great option.  

Triple Asset is a first-crop runner for Darley sire Nadeem (Redoute’s Choice) who was a G1 winner of the 2006 Blue Diamond Stakes.  Her dam Caralowe retired a maiden after 9 starts and is closely related to G1 Golden Slipper winner Marauding (Sir Tristram).
