Star Turn mare My Snow Queen sealed back-to-back city wins at Doomben on Saturday when she nosed out Goldsborough (Headwater) in the Eclipse Brisbane Hcp (1110m).
My Snow Queen went out a $3.40 favourite after leading home another Vinery-sired quinella from Manhood (Headwater) a fortnight ago. She was never headed that day but apprentice Tahlia Fenlon was happy to concede the lead to Situation Room (Defcon) on Saturday.
“She showed her versatility coming from off the pace to take over in the straight and then drop her head down right on the line,” trainer David Vandyke said. “She’s in career-best form and that sent her earnings over $350,000 in prizemoney.”
The 6yo mare will now head for a well-earned rest with a view to bringing her back in the spring to chase black-type for managing part-owners Colin and Meagan Branthwaite and a syndicate that targeted her for $15,000 at the 2020 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale.
My Snow Queen won 3 of her 8 starts this time in and was only further back than second once since May. “It’s been an amazing prep,” Vandyke added. “She really enjoys her time in the paddock and I’m sure she will come back as good as ever.”
Vinery resident Star Turn sired her from Adelaide winner Lionel Left Me (Casino Prince) who is a half-sister to Hawkesbury Gold Cup (Gr.3, 1600m) winner Amovatio (Al Maher). The mare was sold to the Watershed Partnership for $20,000 at the 2019 Inglis Great Southern Sale carrying a colt by Impending.
Named Shadow Vampire, he completed a hat-trick at Warwick Farm for trainer Mark Newnham before shipping off-shore to Singapore where he has won three times to date racing as Pacific Vampire for Pacific Stables and trainer Jason Ong.
Star Turn is off to another quick start this season with the winners of 9 races since August 1. He is standing for $27,500 (inc GST) again this year at Vinery with payment on a live foal. For bookings or further information, contact Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333.
