Victoria welcomes back Bel Esprit

Sun Stud has announced champion sire Bel Esprit will be available to Victoria breeders this year.

The Eliza Park / Sun Stud stallion had won 6 Victorian premierships in a row when he transferred to Queensland in April 2016.  His first flag coincided with the arrival of Black Caviar who was an unbeaten 3yo in 2009-10 winning the LR MVRC Crockett Stakes, G2 VRC Danehill Stakes and G2 MVRC Australia Stakes.

Bel Esprit covered 140 mares at Sun Stud’s Kerrie base before transferring to Queensland, however, he served less than half that number first-up in the Sunshine State.

The 18 year-old son of Royal Academy has already arrived back home at Kerrie.  “The current lease agreement at the Queensland property concludes in May,” managing director Danielle Cheng said.  “The decision has been made to consolidate the business to Victoria.”

Bel Esprit has sired 68 winners for prizemoney of $3.16 million this season topped by stakes winners Keen Array (G2 Gilgai Stakes) and Lady Esprit (LR W J Adams Stakes).
