Victorian sires in focus for Peters

Perth owner-breeder Bob Peters struck black-type either side of the continent on Saturday with Victorian stallions Reset and Desert King (Ire).

His cerise and white silks were in focus at Flemington when Disposition won the G3 Chatham Stakes (1400m).  A son of Darley sire Reset, he will return to headquarters on the last day of the carnival for the G1 Emirates Stakes (1600m).

In the West, Desert King mare Real Love returned to action for the first time since February in the G3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.  After struggling to take any ground off the leaders at the top of the straight, she balanced up and powered into overdrive passing the furlong.

“She was ready although she did have 58kg,” Peters explained after the three-quarter length victory.  “For a moment, she wasn’t going to catch the other horse but she always runs well fresh.”

Peters hit a bullseye when he sent her dam Flaming Heart (Salieri) to Desert King hoping to breed a high-class galloper.  The mare had won a Group 3 at Caulfield and she had already thrown 2002 Asian Beau winner Suspicion.

Real Love won a Bunbury maiden in February 2014 and within weeks added placings in the G3 WA Oaks and G2 WA Derby.  Then, as a summer four year-old, she stamped her authority on the local staying ranks with a feature hat-trick in the G3 Queen’s Cup, LR WA St Leger and G2 Perth Cup.

The Asian Beau completed a winning October for Desert King.  His Victorian stayer Rainbow Storm claimed the Murtoa and Hamilton Cups and that book-ended Desert Jeuney in the Moe Cup at Pakenham.

The WA TAB has promoted Real Love to a $6 second favourite for the G1 Railway Stakes behind Black Hart Bart ($4.80).  Peters has a strong hand in the $1 million mile on November 21 with Disposition and Delicacy on the next line at $7.

Desert King stands at Lauriston Park in Euroa for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee.
