Vinery abandon French plans for Pluck

Future Vinery shuttler Pluck will be given a brief break after Kentucky vets discovered bruising to both of his hind cannon bones.

Pluck (3c More Than Ready – Secret Heart by Fort Wood) won the G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs in November but has disappointed in both starts this year.  Connections had planned to run the colt in the French 2000 Guineas in May.

Pluck is trained by Graham Motion for Team Valor, Vinery and John Singleton.  “We knew something had to be bugging him,” Team Valor owner Barry Irwin said.  “He shut down too quickly in the Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland last Friday.

“He is too much racehorse to just take himself out of the race after a couple of strides.  Graham and (jockey) Garrett Gomez were puzzled after the race but now we know why the colt did not want to extend himself.”

Singelton has signed Pluck to stand alongside More Than Ready at Vinery’s Hunter Valley base commencing in 2012.  He is from South African Listed winner Secret Heart.

Second dam Secret Pact (Bush Telegraph) is a stakes winning sister to London News.  He was a G1 winner in South Africa and Hong Kong and earned South African Horse of the Year honours twice.
