Vinery connection in Hong Kong

Vinery sires Mossman and Testa Rossa have a couple of likely prospects heading for Hong Kong after impressive wins at Morphettville on Wednesday.

Magic Cube (Mossman) and Amalfi Road (Testa Rossa) are raced by Price Bloodstock owners David Price and his wife Jenny Chapman.  The Hong Kong based couple buy yearlings in Australia and, after they measure up, offer them to perspective owners.

Both gallopers will arrive in Hong Kong with ratings that ensure they will be snapped up by local clients.  Price Bloodstock sent Silent Witness up there after he won a Ballarat trial in August 2002 and then watched him win 17 sprints in a row including 8 at Group 1 level.

Price and bloodstock agent John Foote also sent Sight Winner (NZ) to Hong Kong and he won the 2009 Champions Mile at Sha Tin.

Magic Cube (3g Mossman – Rubix by Danehill) cost $43,000 from the Baramul Stud draft at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He started an even-money favourite on debut in Adelaide and had to work hard to collar Latvian Amber (Stratum) to score by a length.

The most successful of the numerous Mossman winners in Hong Kong have been King Mossman (John Size), At Moment in Time (Danny Shum) and Plentiful (Ricky Yiu).

Amalfi Road (4g Testa Rossa – Shashzaya by Ashkalani) brought up a running double for Price Bloodstock, trainer Robert Smerdon and jockey Mark Zahra in Adelaide.  He was racing for just the second time and romped home by four lengths.

Amalfi Road also started at flip-of-the-coin odds.  He was a $105,000 buy from Kia Ora Stud at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale and is from a half-sister to G1 French Oaks winner Shemaka (Nishapour).

Testa Rossa winners in Hong Kong include Precision Magic (Michael Chang) and Master Power (John Moore).  Good Friends Magic is an unraced Testa Rossa gelding with John Size.  He was a $100,000 buy for Foote at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Vinery stands Testa Rossa (Perugino) for $33,000 (inc gst) and Mossman (Success Express) is priced at $27,500 (inc gst).
