Vinery homebred Rediener ready for Epsom

Rediener led home a Randwick Group 3 quinella for Vinery Stud following a convincing victory over Cuban Royale in the Bill Ritchie Hcp (1400m) on Saturday.

Vinery partner Neil Werrett bred and races the son of Redoute’s Choice with Max Whitby and the partners will discuss Group 1 plans with trainer Chris Waller in advance of the ATC Epsom Hcp (1600m)

Rediener is quoted at $21 for the $1.5million Big Mile at Randwick on September 30.  “If they want to go that way, he would make a really nice lightweight chance in the Epsom,” winning jockey Kathy O’Hara claimed.  “He travelled really well today and had a very good turn of foot when I got him to the outside.”

Runner-up Cuban Royale won the Carrington Stakes (LR, 1400m) at Randwick earlier this year and he’s building for an ever better campaign as a 9yo this season.  “You wonder whether they’re going to come back at nine,” co-trainer Luke Price said.  “But his work has been great and he’s cleaned up in the coat.”

Jockey Brock Ryan said the veteran son of Vinery stalwart Casino Prince was unlucky.  “We were pretty stiff up the straight and probably should have won.”

Take nothing away from Rediener who Waller had prepared to a Group 3 victory in the Gunsynd Classic (1600m) at Eagle Farm in June.  “There are plenty of options.  There’s so many choices but I’m sure it will all work out.  He trialled really well and won like a good horse first-up today.

“Who knows, whether it’s the Epsom or the following week in the Alan Brown Stakes,” Waller added.  “As long as we make sure Kathy is available.”  The inaugural $1.5million Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) is scheduled for Saturday, October 7 at Rosehill.

Rediener is the tenth winner from as many to race out of the Randwick 2yo stakes-placed Wiener (More Than Ready).  The dam has paid her way for Werrett after changing hands for $1.25million at the 2007 Magic Millions National Sale.

Wiener is a half-sister to Snippets (Redoute’s Choice) and Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock).  The Redoute’s Choice cross with More Than Ready has an 88% strike-rate headed by Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner Celebrity Queen.

If Cuban Royale was ‘stiff’ in the penultimate race at Randwick, Vinery’s $700,000 graduate Garza Blanca was anything but lucky in the last when just failing to catch Kibou (Maurice) in the Agency Real Estate Hcp (1200m).  He began only fairly and was wide without cover throughout the event.

Garza Blanca (I Am Invincible) was bred by Werrett with fellow Vinery partner Steve McCann and Seymour Bloodstock’s David Thomas.  “It was a really brave run and I just wish something had taken me into the race,” jockey Jason Collett lamented.  “That might have made the difference.”
