Vinery sires a perfect match for Famous Painter

Kalgoorlie breeder Warren Gellard has a perfect record putting Vinery sires over his mare Famous Painter.

A 13 year-old by Peintre Celebre, she boards at Vinery and has foaled three to race by their stallions starting with G2 Edward Manifold Stakes winner Sistine Angel (Testa Rossa).

Sistine Demon (Excites) was next and he completed a hat-trick at Flemington last weekend.  Trainer Andrew Noblet will back him up at headquarters this Saturday.

The latest to race is Artistic Lass (Myboycharlie) and she could be the best of the trio.  The David Payne trained filly has won her last two starts at Canterbury and Hawkesbury and is being set for the G1 Australian Oaks.

Gellard nearly sold Famous Painter at the 2006 Magic Millions National Sale.  Fortunately, the mare failed to make a $100,000 reserve and was sent back to Vinery where she has remained ever since.

The mare didn’t make it to the races for Gellard and fellow part-owner John Jones, however, she had ample residual value being a half-sister to stakes winners Gallopini (Canny Lad) and Land Speed Record (Bluebird).

Their dam Rancheetah (Rancher) was a flying machine and, as a two year-old, beat Imposera who went on to claim a Caulfield Cup.  She didn’t rise to that rank but did train on to win at Listed level in the 1989 Milady Stakes at Flemington.

Meanwhile, Sistine Demon can improve his record to 5 wins in 12 starts for Gellard and fellow part-owners Michael French and Darren Thomas in the Skipton Hcp (1630m) this Saturday.

“He’s fit, in good form and is building in confidence,” Noblet said.  “We will go ahead and run at Flemington if he’s okay.  If not, there’s a 1600m race at Moonee Valley next Saturday week.”

Jockey Brad Rawiller rode Sistine Demon for the first time last weekend and was keen to stay on board.  “We led and then I upped the tempo on the home turn,” he explained.  “I wasn’t worried about anything else in the straight.  This horse is on the up and keeps improving.”

Gellard has more Vinery – Famous Painter foals in the pipeline.  The mare lost a Testa Rossa in 2011 but has a yearling filly by Big Brown and a colt on the ground by Testa Rossa.
