Vinery’s Easter highlights by I Am Invincible

Two fillies by sire phenomenon I Am Invincible topped Vinery Stud’s Day 1 consignment to the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when they made $800,000 at Riverside Stables.

First to parade during Monday’s morning trade was the I Am Invincible – Ballet Rose filly (Lot 37) purchased by Warwick Farm trainer Bryce Heys.  Offered (as agent), she is from an Exceed And Excel half-sister to the Redoute’s Choice Group winners King’s Rose (NZ 1000 Guineas Gr.1) and Hardham (MVRC Alister Clark Stakes Gr.2).

“She’s outstanding and was at the top of our list after inspections at the farm,” Heys said.  “And I was especially impressed the way she paraded here.  She’s a gorgeous ‘Vinnie’ filly and I was happy to get her at that price.  She might have gone for more later in the Sale.”

Ciaron Maher Bloodstock weighed in with another $800,000 for Vinery’s I Am Invincible – Fast Fleet filly (Lot 131).  Bred by Bromfield Bloodstock’s Bill Pearce, she is a half-sister to five-time Group 1 winner Santa Ana Lane who was voted Champion Australian Sprinter in 2018-19.

“She’s stylish, athletic filly with a deep girth and she’s a beautiful mover,” Maher’s Bloodstock Manager Will Bourne said.  “She’s all quality and has obvious residual value as a half-sister to Santa Ana Lane.  Quality fillies hold their value and she will be syndicated in no time among our stable clients.”

Yulong Investments principal Yuesheng Zhang purchased 17 yearlings on Day 1 with his final bid of the session being $700,000 for the Zoustar – Miles of Krishan colt (Lot 227) from Vinery.  His dam was a multiple Melbourne winner and her half-brother Il Quello Veloce was a Champion 2YO in New Zealand.

Earlier, Mr Zhang parted with $260,000 for the Written Tycoon colt from Hussonet mare Dirty (Lot 102) offered (as agent) by Vinery.  The dam won a Listed Vo Rogue Plate in Brisbane and she has a perfect scorecard at stud with Happy Go Plucky (Ipswich Cup LR) the best of her six winners to the races.

“He looks a lovely, sharp colt,” Yulong’s Chief Operating Officer Sam Fairgray said.  “That cross works and he will be a great addition to our operation.”

Yulong stands Champion Australian stallion Written Tycoon who has a 72% strike-rate with Hussonet headed Group 1 Stradbroke Hcp winner Tyzone.

New Zealand buyers targeted yearlings by Exceed And Excel (Lot 184) and Pierro (Lot 112) from Vinery.  Woburn Farm’s Adrian Stanley paid $220,000 for the Exceed And Excel chestnut colt from USA Stakes winner Josdesanimaux.

Aspen Bloodstock’s Graeme Causer outlaid $155,000 for the Pierro half-sister to Group 3 SAJC Breeders Stakes winner Broadband.  Causer is based in Christchurch and he races Hold The Press, a daughter of Vinery sire Press Statement who won this season’s Listed Levin Stakes (1200m) at Otaki.

Vinery sold 8 yearlings on Day 1 for turnover of $3.26 million at an average of $407,500.  Its Day 2 draft of commences with the first yearling to parade on Tuesday morning – the Toronado colt from Star Witness mare Minetti (Lot 229).
