Vodka creates history in Japan

Vodka has created history by becoming the first mare to claim the JRA Horse of the Year title twice.  Vodka won the 2009 poll comfortably with 246 of the 287 votes cast.  Apart from her 2008 Horse of the Year award, Vodka has also won JRA awards in at least one category since 2006.

Vodka has been breaking records since her debut that year.  She was the first filly to win a Japanese Derby in 64 years and currently has 7 Group 1 titles under her belt – the highest ever for a female.  Among her seven G1 victories, six were scored at Tokyo including consecutive Yasuda Kinen titles in 2008 and ‘09.

Vodka (5m  Tanino Gimlet – Tanino Sister by Rousillon) will be retired by owner Yuzo Tanimizu after competing in Dubai in March.
