Vodka in foal to Sea The Stars

Champion galloper Vodka has been scanned in foal to Sea The Stars.  The Tanino Gimlet mare won at least one Group 1 race in Japan as a two, three, four and five year-old.

Vodka was retired earlier this year with career earnings over US$13.14 million.  She is the highest-earning female racehorse of all time.

“Vodka arrived at Gilltown Stud in March but she took time to let down and did not immediately get in foal,” a statement from the Aga Khan Studs said.  “However, Vodka has now joined the long list of Group 1-winning mares in foal to Sea The Stars that includes Zarkava, Speciosa, Love Divine and Look Here.”

Sea the Stars put together an unprecedented sequence of Group 1 victories during a perfect three-year-old campaign in 2009.  He started with the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, followed by the Epsom Derby, Eclipse Stakes over older horses at Sandown, Juddmonte International in course-record time at York and the Irish Champion at Leopardstown.

He bowed out of racing last October with an Arc de Triomphe victory that stamped him as one of the all-time great champions.  The Cape Cross colt has just completed his first book in Ireland at a fee of 85,000 euros.
