If Super Smink hadn’t already sewn up the West Australian 2YO Horse Of The Year Award, she set it in stone with a comprehensive victory in the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.
The Forest View Farm-bred graduate had won the RL Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at Pinjarra in February and the G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) at Ascot earlier this month before outclassing her rivals as the $1.18 favourite for the Sires’ Produce Stakes.
No horse has completed the feature juvenile treble since Magic Millions introduced its sales-related feature race in 1999 when Nervola Belle (Chanteclair) was successful for owner-trainer Bill Godecke.
Super Smink (2f Super One – Sminky Shorts by Snitzel) jumped well before settling on the rails behind the leaders and, once angled into the clear, she quickly put the race to bed with a brilliant burst of acceleration.
“She’s the best 2yo I’ve ridden,” jockey Chris Parnham declared following the two-length and change conquest from Brave Strike (Brave Smash) and Investmentstrategy (Playing God) who was the first colt home.
“I had to just bide my time before getting out but luckily she’s got such good point-to-point speed.”
Trainer Dan Morton bought her for $45,000 on behalf of a large syndicate from Forest View owners Ben and Jo Duncan at the 2022 Perth Magic Millions. The Sires sent her earnings to $547,000 and Parnham claimed the world’s her oyster when she returns for what ‘s shaping up as an exciting 3yo season in 2023-24.
Stable foreman Vince Collica said there were concerns approaching the home turn when Super Smink was pocketed by Investmentstrategy (Playing God). “I did have my heart in my mouth but she has a good turn of foot and had to get out at some stage. Once she did, it was all over.”
Her dam Sminky Shorts will beat the Champion 2YO-elect to the Eastern States. The Duncans are currently deciding on a mate for the mare, who is empty this year, and they will have a multitude of heavyweight stallions to choose from in the Hunter Valley.
