Trainer Chris Waller will consider sending Chateau Lafaite south to join his Melbourne team after her fast-finishing victory in the Great Gatsby Blu-Ray Hcp (1400m) at Randwick.
Chateau Lafaite (3f Redoute’s Choice – Mulan Princess by Kaapstad) came from the back of the field on Saturday to claim a last-stride victory for owner-breeder Gerry Harvey.
The filly is a sister to G1 Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent who is among the favourites for Saturday’s $2.50 million Caulfield Cup. “She is more likely to reach top form next year,” Waller said. “She’s still learning her role and it’s encouraging to see her do that this early in her career. There’s a nice race for her over 1400 metres in three weeks in Melbourne.”
Royal Descent and Chateau Lafaite are by Arrowfield champion Redoute’s Choice from G2 Hill Stakes winner Mulan Princess. The mare has a yearling colt by Big Brown.
Mulan Princess is a half-sister to Group winning racehorse and sire Falkirk. She is also a three-quarter sister to Epsom & Toorak Handicaps winner Golden Sword.
