Dane Shadow filly Red Tracer took the next step to stardom with a sterling victory in the LR James Carr Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Trainer Chris Waller rated Red Tracer the “next big filly” after her win in the Listed P J Bell Stakes at Canterbury a fortnight ago and she began living up to that rating with another impressive effort on the final day of the autumn carnival.

The G1 Stradbroke Hcp at Eagle Farm on June 11 is now on the radar.  “She’s only a baby but I have no doubts she will be a good filly next season,” Waller predicted.  “The Stradbroke won’t give us a big break before the spring so we will consider that when making plans.”

Red Tracer (3f Dane Shadow – Kisma by Snippets) won her maiden at Gosford in October and was then placed at G2 level in the Light Fingers and Surround Stakes before her black-type breakthrough under lights at Canterbury.

She is a homebred for Geoff and Mary Grimish and is a younger sister to G1 AJC The Galaxy winner Shellscrape.  

The Grimishs purchased their dam Kisma on the recommendation of agent Vin Cox.  She was bred back to Dane Shadow at Kitchwin Hills to produce colts in 2008 and 2010.

The Dane Shadow 2yo colt is named Green Tracer and cost $240,000 from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  He is on work with Craig Carmody at Randwick.
